But here’s an anti-virus program that will protect your computer and is totally free. It’s from a company called Grisoft, which offers a free version of its security software. It’s not as feature-packed as paid anti-virus programs like Norton or McAfee, but it’s immensely better than nothing. The free version won’t keep spam out of your email or monitor your file downloads, but it does offer regular virus updates.

This is a good site to visit if you suspect your computer has already been infected. It downloads a small piece of software to your computer and then runs withing your web browser. It scans your PC for infections and alerts you to viruses or other malicious software. It won’t remove the problem, but it will suggest ways to fix it. Another good resource for detecting problems is Microsoft’s Malicious Software Removal Tool.
